Trunk or Treat: What Is It?

Halloween is one of the most popular holidays of the year. People love getting dressed up and celebrating all things spooky, from haunted houses to costume parties. But what if you want something a little different? If you're looking for a new take on Halloween traditions, a trunk or treat might be just what you're looking for! Trunk treats are becoming increasingly popular, with many enjoying this trick-or-treating alternative. In this post, we'll explain what trunk or treat is and why you should try it this Halloween season!

Trunk or treat is a new Halloween tradition growing in popularity each year.

Trunk or treat is growing in popularity each year. In fact, it's a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating because you don't have to go door-to-door looking for candy. Instead, you can join other families in your neighborhood doing trunk or treat together. You'll find the same treats as during regular Halloween: candy, costumes, and games.

In a trunk or treat, people gather in an area, open the backs of their cars and hand out candy from the trunks.

The idea is that kids get to have fun with their friends and neighbors while trick-or-treating without having to go door to door. Also, kids can be creative with their costumes if they're not restricted by a neighborhood's house-to-house format.

Trunk or treats typically take place in parking lots.

Parking lots are an intrinsic part of the trunk or treat experience. They’re large and flat, easy to access, and well lit. There's also a sense of safety for children—no one has to worry about kids getting lost or wandering off too far, or walking across the street without looking both ways.

Trunk or treat festivities often include music, bounce houses, and other fun activities.

Trunk or treat festivities often include music, bounce houses, and other fun activities. Music can be a great way to get people in the mood for a party—and it might even get them thinking about how they want to dress up their cars. Bounce houses are fun for kids and adults alike, so if you have one on hand, you should definitely bring it out! Other fun activities could include face painting or other crafts that people can make while they wait for their turn at trunking.

Many trunk or treats are sponsored by charities, churches, schools, and other organizations as safe alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating.

Many trunk or treats are sponsored by charities, churches, schools, and other organizations as safe alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating. They're an excellent way for kids to meet people in the community and support local organizations. In fact, many trunks or treat organizers donate all proceeds from their event to charity!

Decorating your car for a trunk or treat can be fun and easy!

To get started, you'll need to pick a theme. Many people choose to go with a Halloween-themed trunk or treat. You can also go with a Disney-inspired theme, like Cars or Toy Story. Or you could use your child's favorite character as inspiration—think Sesame Street and Elmo or superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman!

Once you've decided on your theme, it's time to start decorating! Use any color with your chosen theme and material (paper or cardboard are good options). Use shapes of different sizes—as long as they fit on the car—and materials ranging from plastic cups to straws and toothpicks. Try using different lights (like glow sticks) for extra fun when night falls! Also, remember that props can make all the difference: maybe give each person their own little basket filled with candy corn? Or tape some fake spider webs around the windshield? The possibilities are endless!

If you're interested in volunteering, consider contacting the organization hosting the trunk or treat. They may need help with setup, cleanup, and other activities. You can also ask if they would like volunteers to make or buy treats!

This is a great way to meet community members and get involved. If there are no trunk or treat events near you right now, think of ways that you could organize one yourself!
